This man has aged very poorly

Rolling Stone

Another possible track off Dr. Dre’s ultra-anticipated Detox hit the radio yesterday as “Topless,” featuring T.I. and Nas, leaked out. DJ Envy on NY hip-hop station Hot97 was the first to play the track, which according to MTV was “obviously not mastered or fully recorded and released without Dre’s permission.” T.I. reportedly spent time in the studio with Dre during Grammy weekend, so this might be one of the songs from that collaboration.

“Topless” opens up with Tip boasting about Dre’s unblemished hit-making resume, rapping “It’s the D-R, save an artist out the ER, bring ‘em back to life, beats like CPR. Made the West side worldwide, no PR, Gangsta-rap god, I’m the end all, be all.” The Chronic producer/rapper (possibly) makes his appearance in the chorus — sadly, Dre doesn’t rap on “Topless” in its current form — before Nas explodes into the second verse.

The radio rip of “Topless” that was circulating on the Net and YouTube suffered from those annoying and repetitive DJ intrusions, but thankfully some blogs have a cleaned-up, higher-quality version for your listening enjoyment. The song does seem unfinished, but even as a embryo it’s a good barometer of how incredibleDetox might end up being, if it’s ever released.

Still, the Shady/Aftermath crew has been hit hard by leaks these past few months. Eminem was reportedly “heated” when a couple songs off his next album Relapse, namely the Em/Dre/50 Cent track “Crack A Bottle,” spilled out prematurely. Following its success on the Hot 100, “Crack A Bottle” will ultimately find a home on 50 Cent’s delayed Before I Self Destruct.
